FAQ

  • How long is a session?
An initial consultation with treatment is 1 hour, and follow-ups with rehabilitation are 45min.
  • What do I need to know if I am a new patient?
Please ensure you arrive 15 minutes before the appointment time to complete the necessary forms. Please allow adequate time for travel during load shedding hours and to account for traffic or accidents. Inform your physio if you are running late.
  • What clothing should I wear, and what is the basic etiquette at the practice?
Please ensure you wear loose clothing that is comfortable and that the areas to be treated are accessible to the physio. Please clean the area that requires treatment beforehand (e.g. feet). (We have a basic shower facility that you can make use before and after your treatment, if you are unable to access such a facility.)
  • Do I need a referral to see a physio?
No you do not need a referral to make an appointment to see a physio.
  • Do you offer a walk-in service?
Unfortunately we are only able to cater for patients who have made an appointment, and strive to ensure each patient is given personal and uninterrupted attention.
  • Can I communicate with you via WhatsApp?
Yes, we welcome your messages or voice notes, even if you have a small query. We will try our best to respond as quickly as possible, but this will not always be immediately: sometimes we may be providing care or we may be otherwise engaged. However, we will always respond to your message. That's our promise. If you do need to contact us urgently, please start your message with: "URGENT... ". Then detail your message. This will ensure that we respond as soon as possible.
  • What to documentation should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring the following with you to your first appointment: - Medical aid card - ID or driver's license - X-rays, MRI or CT scans - Referral letter - Authorization number and letter, if applicable
  • How much is the initial consultation and the follow-up appointments?
The initial consultation is charged at the Discovery Health Rate, which is R700-R860. Follow-up appointments are charged at R650-R750, depending on the treatment modality used. Please note: - There is a list of various codes that apply to different treatment modalities, therefore treatment charges will vary from one patient to the next or from one appointment to the next (if treatments vary) - Different medical aids apply different rates to the same codes. Your medical aid will be able to provide this detail.
  • Which medical aid company is Chen Physiotherapy affiliated with?
The practice is registered with all medical aids, including Discovery, Momentum and Medscheme.
  • Do you submit the claim to the medical aid?
The practice only submits invoices to Discovery and its affiliated medical schemes. If you belong to any other medical aid scheme, you will be required to settle the account after each session. A statement will be sent to you the same day, and you then submit it to your medical aid to claim a refund.
  • How do I know if my medical aid will cover my physiotherapy sessions?
It is best to give your medical aid provider a call to see whether physio is covered or not. In cases where it is not covered, the patient will have to settle the account after the session. Some medical aids will only cover physiotherapy sessions if certain referral or other procedures have been followed. In this case, the onus is on the patient to find out the due process (e.g. Discovery sports benefit).
  • Can I claim if I have an international medical aid?
Unfortunately, the practice is not registered with international medical aids, and the patient will have to settle the account after each session and claim a refund from the medical aid provider.
  • Is there pain after treatment?
Physiotherapy may provide fast relief from pain in the early stages of treatment of many less serious conditions; however, the rate at which physiotherapy relieves the pain is dependent on a number of issues, including the type of injury, the physical condition of the patient and so on. Recent onset of less severe pain often begins to subside after just one session, while chronic pain that has been an issue for many months or years may require a number of sessions before there is complete relief from pain. A combination of treatment techniques will be used during your rehabilitation journey, with each program being tailored to suit each patient.
